When MTD Group purchased the site to develop One Crown Place, they inherited six beautiful Georgian townhouses. These buildings are of historical and local importance. The client’s wish was to restore these buildings to their former glory and give them a new lease of life by providing a new social fulcrum on the street and provide the area with an understated, unusual hotel.
The renowned Bespoke Hotels are the operators of the hotel. We studied the history of the street, the original architect, buildings and the businesses and characters who had occupied the buildings over the years. We were charmed by the individual shop fronts on the terrace, providing a distinct personality for each of the public spaces. A new extension to the townhouses was designed by KPF creating an internal courtyard.
The hotel has 41 room keys with some guest rooms situated in the modern architecture, and the majority in the Georgian terrace. The guest room interiors and associated corridors within the two areas have their own personality but share details and a DNA. There is a cosy arrival space which leads to a bar and a private dining area – the ‘Tasting Room’, a library and a further lounge. There is also a covered terrace area and a restaurant with a terrace.
Our ambition was for the hotel to have a sense of humour and display a ‘London eccentricity.’ We achieved this by carefully selecting bold and humorous wallpapers, light fittings, and details, which sit harmoniously with each other.
